Client Management Responsibilities
- Assists the Senior Director of Public Affairs in developing overall client goals and strategies
- Manages client projects/programs with supervision from a director depending on size of account
- Delivers top quality work to clients, including memos, releases, pitches and plans
- Builds successful client relationships at appropriate levels
- Knows and interfaces with relevant client media
- Shows judgment and maturity in dealing with clients, influencers and the media
- Understands use and best practices for major social media platforms
Public Affairs
- Has an understanding and experience navigating the local political landscape and functions of government
- Builds on existing relationships with local and industry decision-makers, policy makers and leaders
- Works closely with public affairs leadership to deepen policy expertise, outreach experience, and external partnerships
- Experience working in, with, or for BIPOC organizations, advocacy organizations, and community groups
Writing
- Produces written materials that require minimal manager edits
- Demonstrates good judgment in all written client communication
- Writes strong and creative leads, pitches and quotes
Media Relations
- Identifies and advances key client story topics/ideas
- Reads/follows key media to understand beats and coverage opportunities
- Cultivates and maintains relationships with journalists
- Demonstrates a track record of successful media and influencer placements
Client Relationships
- Serves as day-to-day contact for the client
- Identifies and sends information of value to client’s business with insights
- Works with team to quickly find and share client news with context
Internal Responsibilities
- Reviews agendas and action items, providing feedback to team
- Helps to prep for calls and meetings with supervisor
- Provides insightful feedback to junior team members
- Alerts manager immediately to any internal or external challenges
- Participates in internal new business meetings and in presentations
- Personifies the definition of a “team player”
- Has a sense of urgency and dedication to advancing the work process efficiently
- Finds effective solutions to challenges
- Has a proven ability to multitask with strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Actively supports the agency’s diversity, equity and inclusion goals and programs

- Participates in external events on behalf of the agency
- Begins to build other organizational relationships of benefit to agency and/or clients
REQUIREMENTS
- 3 – 5 years of public affairs or policy/government communications experience
- Degree in public relations, communications, journalism, business or other related field of study
- Experience with policy research, development and content development
- Background supporting relationships with diverse and high-ranking stakeholders, including government officials, community partners and members of the public
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint); SharePoint and OneDrive experience a plus
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with a background in AP-style writing
