Care to Share? Social Media for a Cause
During the Holiday season, giving is spelled with a capital G. To inspire those who want to give, Mozilla has launched a timely charity campaign, the Mozilla Firefox Challenge. Between December 14, 2011, and January 11, 2012, 12 celebrities – including Zooey Deschanel, Jonah Hill and Will Ferrell – are competing to raise the most money for a charity that is meaningful to them. The Challenge is hosted on Crowdrise.com, a platform that allows users to either start their own fundraising campaign for an existing charity, or help someone else with their fundraising efforts. And just in case their endorsement alone is not enough, the participating celebrities offer weekly prizes and give-aways as an incentive for donations to their causes.
But fundraising is not the only way to do some good using social media. PR pros are constantly pushing content – so why not do some “pro bono” sharing and donate a Tweet? Via JustCoz.org, Twitter users can support charities, non-profits or NGOs by enabling them to send a daily message through the user’s Twitter account, a permission that can be revoked at any time. Serving as multipliers, JustCoz users help to increase the organizations’ social media reach and eventually their impact, at no cost. The perfect donation for social media buffs on a budget!
